The San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners baseball game on June
23rd honored our Association!
During the pre-game
activities, the TV Channel 4 reporter, Chrissy Russo, conducted live, on-air interviews with ship's sponsor Rosalie Calhoun,
outgoing President Garry Collins, and reunion host/incoming President Glenn Gerbrand. Rosalie talked about being sponsor
and her continued association with the JCCVA. Garry was asked about submarine life and what it was like living under
the sea. Glenn expounded on the reunion planning aspect.
Rosalie, Garry, and
Glenn presented the colors before the game standing just behind the pitchers mound and facing home plate. As the anthem
played the huge scoreboard video presentation showed close-ups of Glenn, Garry, and Rosalie. Here's a shot of Rosalie
displayed on the large video screen in center field - the wording behind Rosalie reads " Padres welcome John C. Calhoun
Veterans Association." To the right is the official Padres Color Guard photo of Garry, Rosalie, and Glenn. Wow!
Also, everyone attending this game received a FREE Padres beach towel.
Afterwards, we retired to the hospitality suite! By the way, the Padres won the game 2-1 in the bottom of the 10th inning
and there were a few outstanding plays, particulary from the Padres.
